Mission
The mission of the Department of Parks and Recreation is to enhance the physical and recreational needs of the public by enhancing the quality of life of our patrons and promoting positive, recreational programming through coaching, teaching, mentoring, preserving, protecting, and enhancing its park lands and public green space.
Fun Facts
Did you know that approximately 2,300 acres of land in the City of Jackson are composed of our 57 city parks and facilities? The areas include: playgrounds, swimming pools, golf courses, tennis courts, picnic grounds, and jogging and walking paths. In addition, our special facilities include: community centers, which are available for public use; Smith Wills Stadium; Mynelle Gardens, which is the city’s botanical gardens; and the Jackson Zoo. We always set the safety of our patrons as top priority, so all properties are patrolled by the City of Jackson Police Department.
The City of Jackson also offers a wide variety of recreational programs. Our Athletics Division offers youth and adults softball, flag football, basketball and baseball leagues. In addition, our division offers swimming, golfing, and tennis lessons. Citizens can also enjoy our exciting neighborhood festivals, after school programs, and special events.
