(Jackson, Miss.) – The City of Jackson will hold several events as part of its Citywide Day of Service this Monday and Tuesday in an effort to commemorate the public service of residents during the water crisis of last year.
As part of this recognition, the City of Jackson will be cleaning up Percy V. Simpson Drive near Dawson Elementary School in west Jackson. The clean-up will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Aug. 28. Scholars from Jackson Public Schools will be on hand to help with the clean-up. City of Jackson employees are encouraged to participate as well.
The City will also be burying a time capsule to commemorate this moment in time for future generations.
Food trucks will be on-site to provide complimentary food to all volunteers. There will be water and cooling stations. A limited number of t-shits will also be available.
On Tuesday, the City will honor the unsung heroes of the water crisis at a special reception at the Jackson Convention Complex that begins at 6 p.m.
The public is invited.
