ONELINE
5 Mile Multi Modal Corridor Plan
ONELINE is a 5-mile multi modal corridor that aims to connect neighborhood nodes, institutions, and economic centers. The project is centered around a dynamic BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) system that extends from the Fondren area through Downtown to Jackson State University. This project will provide new infrastructure that prioritizes pedestrians, bicycles, bikeshare, carshare, electric scooters, and the bus rapid transit system. Smart street infrastructure is also deployed throughout the corridor which will include public WiFi, smart cameras, street lights, traffic signals, digital display panels.
The neighborhoods located within the corridor contain universities and some of the largest employers including Jackson State University, Millsaps College, Belhaven University, University of Mississippi Medical Center, and Baptist Medical Center. These neighborhoods employ a large population of young professionals and students.
ONELINE has the potential to create new waves of investment in reshaping the development of the corridor and take advantage of pent-up demand for walkable-transit oriented urban spaces. The development of a BRT will catalyze development and increase employment opportunities for the residents of Jackson.
The project directly impacts a 20 sq. mile area of the city that has the highest employment concentration in the state. NAICS and census data indicate that around 60,000 people work within the area and around 48,000 live in the area. That is over 100,000 people not including patrons and visitors. Of the residents living in the area only 1% commute to work using public transportation, only 2% walk to work, and 90% commute to work using their own automobile.
$1 Million FTA Grant for ONELINE
Will go toward research, planning, and development for our proposed ONELINE corridor. This grant will be a major step forward in making Jackson function like a city that has walkable high density urban development and a high quality mass transit system.
