Joseph Wade, Chief of Police, Jackson Police Department

Chief Wade is an experienced law enforcement professional with nearly three decades of service. Since June 2023, he has led the Jackson Police Department (JPD) as Chief of Police, showcasing strong leadership, strategic vision, and a dedicated commitment to public safety.

Education & Career

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Strayer University and an Associate in Applied Science in Criminal Justice from Hinds Community College. As a State Certified Law Enforcement Officer, Chief Wade began his JPD career in 1995 as a patrolman and has steadily advanced through the ranks. His leadership experience includes roles as Assistant Chief (2020-2023), Deputy Chief of Administration, and various supervisory positions in patrol, investigations, and training.

Achievements & Recognition

Chief Wade has played a pivotal role in modernizing departmental procedures, enhancing officer training, and boosting community engagement. He has received multiple awards, including Meritorious Service Awards, Superior Leadership Awards, and the Mayor’s Award for Jackson’s Best. Additionally, he is a recognized member of the Dept. of Public Safety’s D.U.I. 100 Club.

Professional Training

Dedicated to continuous improvement, he has completed advanced law enforcement training, such as the FBI Command College, the FBINAA Leadership Certification Course, the DEA Drug Unit Commander Academy, and extensive FEMA emergency response training.

Community Engagement Beyond Policing

Chief Wade is committed to community service. He has officiated high school football and basketball since 2010 and has been coaching youth basketball since 2006. He is also a Prince Hall Freemason and an active member of Lynch Lodge #2.

Chief Wade is a respected leader focused on public safety, community trust, and officer development. His extensive experience and dedication to justice make him a significant figure in law enforcement and civic engagement.
