(Jackson, Miss.) – Next week, the City of Jackson will hold its annual Economic Development Week to promote economic development and opportunity in the Capital City. The city and its partners hope to engage professionals, students, business owners and residents to this celebration through a weeklong series of events beginning Monday, May 6. These activities will include several networking opportunities, educational workshops and exclusive insights into Downtown Jackson that promise to empower the entrepreneurs, innovators, and dreamers who drive our economy forward.

“We remain committed to ensuring our residents and business owners are not only prepared to succeed in the modern economic climate, but are also given the opportunities they deserve,” said Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba. “Since their success is our success, we are excited about this year’s Economic Development Week and I commend the organizers and partner agencies for making this happen.”

Among the scheduled events will be a kick-off breakfast at the Hinds County Economic Development Authority to celebrate the impact of regional community growth efforts, a “lunch and learn” session at the Capitol Club, a networking mixer at Cathead Distillery, a bus tour of downtown Jackson properties and future projects, and an Open House.

The full itinerary is listed below:

Monday, May 6:  The events launch at 9 a.m. with an official proclamation and Kick-off Breakfast at the Hinds County Economic Development Authority office to celebrate the impact of regional community growth efforts.

Tuesday, May 7:  An engaging “lunch and learn” session will welcome professionals, students, business owners, and locals to soak up the fundamentals of economic development from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Capitol Club on Congress Street.

Wednesday, May 8: The celebration rolls on with a Networking mixer from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 pm at Cathead Distillery for a night of intriguing conversations, fresh libations and inspiration from like-minded professionals in a lively ambiance.

Thursday, May 9:  Catch exclusive insight on downtown properties and hear the vision for future projects on the Bus Tour at 9 a.m. starting at Union Station on W. Capitol Street. Then, the opportunity for public input will take place at a community meeting from 6  p.m. to 8 p.m. at Union Station that evening.

Friday, May 10: Events wrap up with an Open House from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a behind-the-scenes look at Visit Jackson! Discover how the city is promoting tourism and attracting visitors to our community.

The week’s events have been planned through a collaborative partnership between The City of Jackson, Hinds County Economic Development Authority, Jackson Redevelopment Authority, and Visit Jackson! All activities are free and open to the public, as the purpose of this annual celebration is to highlight successful programs, strategies, and individuals who positively impact their communities and to educate the public about the value of economic development across the region.
