MAYOR LUMUMBA TO HOLD TOWN HALL MEETING TO DISCUSS STATUS OF CITY’S GARBAGE COLLECTION

(JACKSON, Miss) – Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba will host a citywide town hall meeting Monday, Sept. 27, at 6 p.m. at College Hill Missionary Baptist Church located at 1600 Florence Avenue.

The mayor will discuss the status behind the city’s choice of a garbage disposal contract.

He will explain why he believes a new operator is essential in Jackson and give a timeline of events that led him to declare a local emergency similar to other cities.

Among the other topics the mayor will address is an explanation for an expected rate increase – no matter who the operator is- and the reason a once a week pickup service was put in contract negotiations.

The mayor hopes to set the record straight and will discuss how the City moves forward. He looks forward to a robust discussion with residents.

For those who cannot attend in person, the event will be livestreamed on the City of Jackson Facebook page. The mayor will answer some questions that are submitted on that forum. The link to the Facebook page can be found here.

COVID-19 guidelines will be observed. Masks will be required for all in attendance.
