(Jackson, Miss.) – Following the lift of the system wide boil water notice on customers, the City of Jackson wants to extend a special “Thank You” to the Mississippi Rapid Response Coalition and the City’s Constituent Services Department.
The City and MRRC made a commitment to provide free, clean drinking water to residents every day we remained on a boil water notice or had low water pressure issues. Officials with both entities have worked through holidays and weekends to make that a reality.
“Unfortunately, out water system issues aren’t a new phenomenon to residents,” said Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba. “But since it is an issue that has a profound effect on our customers, I made it a priority for us to do everything we could do on our end – with the resources we have – to ensure clean water is available to those in need. We remain committed to that standard.”
Since the beginning of the state-imposed citywide boil water notice beginning in August of last year to January 9 of 2023, the two entities have distributed over 1,400 pallets of drinking water. This equates to nearly 120,000 cases or roughly 4.2 million bottles of water. Over 60,000 families have been served.

The City will continue to organize water distribution sites when necessary. The City of Jackson would also like to send out its sincerest gratitude to all the individuals and organizations that have leaned in to assist our residents with donations.
