Cleotha Sanders Jr.

Cleotha Sanders Jr. is a proud native of Jackson, Mississippi, and currently serves as the Deputy Fire Chief of the Community Relations & Fire Safety Education Division for the Jackson Fire Department. Since beginning his fire service career with JFD in 1998, Chief Sanders has steadily risen through the ranks, earning multiple certifications, including Executive Fire Officer and Emergency Medical Technician. 

Chief Sanders is deeply committed to public service, fire safety education, and community engagement. He oversees the division’s daily operations, coordinates outreach programs, and promotes safety through collaboration with local partners. A strong advocate for diversity and local hiring, Chief Sanders was honored with the 2024 Community Impact Award from Butterflies by Grace for his leadership in community events. 

Raised in West Jackson and a graduate of the University of Provine, he attributes his work ethic and values to his parents, Cleotha and Bettie Sanders. He has been married to his wife, Demeatrice, for over 26 years, and they have one daughter, Kaylan. Chief Sanders views his service as a divine calling—an opportunity to serve God by serving others through the fire service.
